In 2011, BHA engaged Threshold Environmental to develop an Ecological Restoration Plan for 400 ha of marginal farmland which reconnects the Corackerup Nature Reserve to a large swath of continuous, protected, native remnant ecosystem. In 2012 and 2013, building off the knowledge gained from the planning, Threshold Environmental implemented an industry leading mix of innovative and ground breaking restoration works at Monjebup North. This work included:

  • 13 DIFFERENT VEGETATION ASSOCIATIONS SYSTEMS DEFINED AND PLANTED
    • DIRECT SEEDING OF 100 HECTARES (2012)
    • DIRECT SEEDING OF 140 HECTARES (2013)
  •  148 PLANT SPECIES INCLUDED ACROSS ALL RESTORATION SYSTEMS
  • 203 SEEDLING ‘NODES’ OF SPECIALITY SPECIES PLANTED BY HAND
  • 2,850 BANKSIA MEDIA SEEDLINGS GRIDDED OUT (30m x 30m) ACROSS ALL AREAS
  •  824 BANKSIA CALEYI SEEDLINGS GRIDDED (30m x 30m) IN 2012 AREAS
  • 16 HABITAT DEBRIS PILES CONSTRUCTED FOR FAUNA HABITAT FEATURES
  • 184 FIRE RESPONSIVE SEROTINOUS BRANCH+SEED PILES BURNT IN SITU

The ecological restoration works administered by Threshold Environmental at Monjebup North in 2012, and 2013, successfully restored marginal agricultural land back to a biodiverse mosaic of native plant communities and functioning ecosystems. Monjebup Reserve is part of Bush Heritage Australia’s (BHA) owned and managed conservation estate.
